It may not, of course, be of interest to anybody out there, but hopefully, one or two of you will enjoy reading about the adventure...
A bit of explaining needed I think.
Well, after almost 25 years of Graphic Designing, rearing kids and being generally slaves to the rat race; we decided it was time for a change - a radical one.
We have always believed there's not just one way to live and that trying to live more in harmony with nature, the earth (or whatever you like to call it), is going to have to be the way to go - if we want, as a species, to survive.
With this in mind, the hunt for a way to do this ensued, sped up by impending (ridiculous) rises in Energy bills, ever increasing congestion - we live near the A14 and A1 in Cambridgeshire - and a compelling desire to 'escape'.
After not a lot of searching really - I think the universe was on our side on this one - we found the most wonderful 6 acre Croft, in North West Scotland. Set on the edge of a beautiful sea loch, with mountain views and on a remote peninsula, with other like-minded people.
Guardian Croft, as it is already known (and suits it and our plans for it) is completely 'Off-grid', generating its own power - through Wind, Water and Sun; using its own stream/spring for water. There are various areas on the land, including Broadleaf Woodland, Orchard, Meadows, Rough Scrub and Rocky Shoreline.
The plan is to cultivate some of it, utilise areas for small livestock, and other areas for (hopefully paying) visitors to come and stay. The rest will be left wild to encourage as much wildlife as possible.
In this blog, we plan to keep the world informed of progress, the ups, the downs (hopefully not many of these!), various projects - in both the infrastructure of the place and in living sustainably and self sufficiently. And, I'm sure, we'll meet some interesting and endearing characters (some of them may even be human) along the way.
We hope to do this in an informative, inspiring and, above all, fun way. So, here's to the future and to looking after the important things in life - our Home (both the Earth & Guardian), Health, Happiness, Friends and (lets hope it all grows) Good Food...
